Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator

Salary: £32,000 full time equivalent

Hours: We will consider requests for flexible working patterns and secondment opportunities from local organisations

Accountable to: Senior Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator

Location: 1-2 days per week at the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP office in Reading and 1-2 days at Heathrow Airport. The job involves travel within the Berkshire area.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator (EC) will sit at the heart of a local cluster system in order to help schools and colleges improve their careers and enterprise activities and to engage with the world of work. Working closely with the LEP Skills Lead and Senior Careers & Enterprise Co-ordinator, the EC will ensure the Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) is embedded into the LEP’s skills strategy and make it easier for employers and the self-employed to engage with schools and colleges. Through establishing the local and national contexts the EC will focus everyone’s efforts on programmes and activities that are most effective in motivating young people, supporting independent choice, and supporting positive outcomes for young people.

Main responsibilities

1. Engaging and supporting a cluster of 20 schools and Enterprise Advisers in the East of Berkshire with a focus on engaging with Heathrow Airport Ltd, its supply chain, partners and other local businesses

2. Building and maintaining effective relationships with senior leaders in local schools and colleges within the cluster, understanding their development needs and supporting EAs in scoping, identifying and addressing these needs

3. Recruiting senior-level Enterprise Advisers (EA) from Heathrow Airport Ltd, its supply chain, partners and other local businesses and successfully matching them to schools and colleges within the EAN

4. Acting as an ambassador for the CEC, including raising the profile of the EAN through existing communication and marketing channels in order to engage with key local stakeholders

5. Providing ongoing support to EAs such as induction training, co-ordinating EAN meetings and identifying and delivering ongoing training to meet individual EA’s developmental needs

6. Supporting CEC funded programmes locally

7. Building and understanding the local context of careers provision and providers including: the National Apprenticeship Service, the National Careers Service, and JobCentre Plus; and how these fit with the national context

8. Contribute to the monitoring and impact tracking of the EAN

9. Attending CEC national and local training events and meetings to keep up to date with CEC and EAN guidance

10. Sharing knowledge across local and national CEC networks with case studies

Qualifications & Experience required

Demonstrable experience of engaging and building relationships with leaders from schools, colleges and businesses

Demonstrable experience of supporting the delivery of programmes or projects with multiple stakeholders

A strong track record of stakeholder engagement and management and of communicating with a variety of audiences, preferably in the education and careers sector

A demonstrable understanding of school culture and the challenges faced by schools in delivering careers and enterprise

Working knowledge of employment engagement with schools and corporate social responsibility landscapes

An understanding of relevant local and national policy relating to skills and economic development and the issues and barriers to employment faced by young people

Experience of using social media

• Relevant professional qualifications / membership desirable

Full and valid UK driving licence

Creative thinker, able to develop ideas and schools careers and enterprise programmes complemented with excellent written skills
