Dog welfare and rehoming coordinator

To co-ordinate the intake, care, assessment and rehoming of dogs to the most appropriate new homes. We are looking for people in the Maidenhead area.

Key activities

Assess the ability of the branch to take in each dog offered.

Once a dog is taken into the branch, assess behaviour and suitability for rehoming. Arrange a vet check and any treatment needed, liaise with the trustees on the finances involved for any ongoing treatment.

Liaise with the kennel staff or fosterer on a regular basis to monitor the health and wellbeing of the dog, and deal with any concerns.

Vet prospective new owners for the dog, arrange viewings and facilitate the adoption for suitable owners. Collaborate with the Home check coordinator to monitor results of home checks.

Keep up to date with all legislation and RSPCA guidance concerning dog welfare.

Keep up-to-date with RSPCA requirements for the boarding and care of dogs within the branch.

Times & preferred duration of commitment

The branch has limited capacity for dogs with 2 kennel spaces plus occasional fosterers. Ideally some time during the week is necessary for vet runs, the actual time will vary and the weekend is popular for viewings. Average time 3-4 hours.

Experience / skills / knowledge / personal qualities required

A proven track record in the care of dogs, preferably with training from a recognised source. Good organisation and liaison skills and also comfortable with  procedures.  Passion for animal welfare is essential.
